Therapeutic Products Bill Discussion at Waitangi – Sunday Feb 5th
A discussion from the forum tent.
TE AKA WHAI ORA MAORI HEALTH AUTHORITY
Understanding the Therapeutic Products Bill with particular interest to Rongoa Maori
The forum was to have discussion and help whanau/family Maori understand what is in the Therapeutic Products Bill, and to highlight sections of the bill that may be of particular interest to Maori.
The bill which will replace the Medicines Act 1981 and Dietary Supplements Regulations 1985 with new law for medicines, medical devices, natural health products and biological’ products’ such as blood donations.
All of which are different types of ‘therapeutic product’.
Te Aka Whai Ora (the Maori Health Authority) highlighted sections of the bill specific to Rongoa Maori and the concerns they want to provide feedback to the select committee.
Our Northland correspondent Dana Lee was in attendance to ask some relevant questions, which seemingly got side stepped with an unclear response from the panel.
